Taliban authorities say 472 Afghan migrant families, totaling 2,523 individuals, were returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, said in a statement issued on Monday, June 15, that 375 families comprising 2,043 individuals entered the country through the Torkham border crossing alone.
According to the statement, 37 families returned via the Spin Boldak border in Kandahar, 16 families through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat, and 44 families via the Nimroz border.
The announcement comes as the deportation and forced return of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, particularly Iran and Pakistan, continues.
Returning families are facing challenges including poverty, unemployment, lack of shelter, limited access to health and education services, and insufficient livelihood opportunities.
