Despite the incarceration of Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, preliminary estimates indicate that his allies affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are maintaining a lead in the ongoing elections, securing 99 seats.
According to CNN’s report on Saturday, February 10, quoting the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, led by Nawaz Sharif, has secured 71 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party, led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has secured 53 seats in the Pakistani parliament thus far.
Concerns have been raised once again by Pakistani citizens regarding the delay in announcing the final results of the general elections, with accusations of fraud leveled against the Election Commission.
Both Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Ministers of Pakistan, have declared victory in the past two days, adding a layer of uncertainty to the electoral process.
In a notable development, The Hindustan Times reported that Shahbaz Sharif, the brother of Nawaz Sharif, has engaged in discussions with senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party, potentially signaling an agreement to form a coalition government.
The allies of Imran Khan are on the brink of victory, even as a court in Pakistan recently sentenced him to 10 years in prison less than ten days before the general elections, citing the “disclosure of government secrets.”
