United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has called for expanding early warning systems, saying they are essential for responding to the impacts of climate change.
In a post on X on Saturday, July 18, Guterres said early warning systems are not only an economic, development, and security necessity, but also a matter of climate justice.
He added that he launched the Early Warnings for All initiative to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to life-saving early warning systems.
The UN chief said the technology needed to achieve this goal is already available and that international cooperation to support the initiative is continuing to grow.
Guterres urged governments and international partners to accelerate the implementation of the initiative through greater urgency and increased investment.
