House of Representatives Brings Mayor of Kabul before Prosecutor’s Office, Divests him of Authority
8 Subh, Kabul: At its session on Wednesday, December 30, the House of Representatives reported Kabul Mayor Mohammad Dawood Sultanzoi to the prosecutor’s office and divested him of authority. The issue of reporting the mayor of Kabul to the Attorney General was proposed by a number of members of this assembly and presented to the general assembly by Mir Rahman Rahmani, the speaker of the House of Representatives, and was approved by a majority of votes.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives said that following five violations by the Kabul mayor, a number of lawyers had demanded that he be brought before the prosecutor’s office and his signature declared invalid
According to Rahmani, these five cases include failure to address environmental problems, inability to control the illegal construction of tall buildings, illegal appointments, failure to implement development projects, and failure to attend public meetings and committees of the House of Representatives regularly. He tabled a proposal in the House of Representatives, which was eventually approved by a majority vote.
The issue of reporting the mayor of Kabul to the Attorney General’s Office was raised in the previous session of the House of Representatives after Dawood Sultanzoi refused to attend the interrogation session of the House of Representatives.
Dawood Sultanzoi was appointed as the mayor of Kabul on April 1, 2020, and officially took charge the next day. His actions in this position have regularly made the news.
The mayor of Kabul has not yet reacted to the action taken by the House of Representatives.
