Relatives of Baharuddin Jowzjani, a member of the National Islamic Movement party led by Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, have claimed that he has gone missing after returning to the country at the invitation of the Taliban.
On Sunday, June 14, relatives told the Hasht-e Subh Daily that Jowzjani had returned to Afghanistan upon the invitation of the Taliban’s Commission for the Return and Communication with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures.
They alleged that he has been missing since the second day of Eid al-Adha, and his family has no information about his whereabouts.
They also claimed that he was arrested by Taliban intelligence and the Haqqani network.
The Taliban and the National Islamic Movement, led by Abdul Rashid Dostum, have not yet commented on the matter.
The Taliban have repeatedly invited political leaders and opposition figures abroad to return to the country.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, despite the announcement of a general amnesty by Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, there have been numerous reports of arrests, torture, and killings of former security personnel and civilians by the group’s fighters.
