Russia’s permanent mission to the European Union has rejected allegations from Brussels that Moscow was involved in malicious cyber activities, calling the accusations “baseless.”
Russia’s TASS news agency reported on Tuesday night, July 14, citing the Russian mission to the EU, that the European Union had turned to making public accusations against Russia instead of engaging in “professional and constructive” cooperation on cybersecurity.
The Russian official said Moscow’s position was presented during a meeting with EU officials at the bloc’s European External Action Service.
The response came after the European Union imposed sanctions on Russia on Monday over what it described as “malicious cyber activities.”
Russian diplomats said Moscow played an active role in drafting the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, which was adopted in December 2024, and has consistently supported the peaceful use of cyberspace.
