In the wake of an armed assault on a Pakistani army base, the toll stands at six soldiers and one commanding officer slain.
Reports from Geo News confirm the attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 16, targeting a Pakistani army installation in the Mir Ali vicinity of North Waziristan.
As per a statement issued by the Pakistani army, a cadre of six assailants orchestrated the attack by detonating a bomb-laden vehicle at the security post. Subsequently, a skirmish ensued between the armed intruders and Pakistani army personnel.
Those associated with Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a prominent figure within the Pakistani Taliban, have laid claim to the assault.
Over the past couple of years, Pakistan has witnessed a surge in anti-security incidents, particularly in the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Notably, in early December of the previous year, 25 Pakistani soldiers fell victim to two separate attacks perpetrated by a faction affiliated with the TTP.
Consistently, Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of sheltering the TTP, an assertion vehemently refuted by the latter group.
