Local sources report that Fasihuddin, the Taliban’s Army Chief, has traveled to Nusay District following tensions over gold mining in Badakhshan to assess the situation firsthand.
A video that reached the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, May 20, shows the moment a helicopter carrying Fasihuddin and his accompanying delegation landed in Nusay.
According to sources, on Tuesday, Mullah Juma Fateh had gathered more than 150 armed Taliban fighters and approximately 500 students and residents at the “Al-Fatah” madrassa.
Sources say that during this gathering, he urged the attendees to march in protest against the Badakhshan governor’s order to halt gold extraction.
Sources further add that the management of this march had been entrusted to Burhan, the director of the “Al-Fatah” madrassa.
Sources say that Fasihuddin is attempting to persuade Mullah Juma Fateh to transfer his relatives and close associates, who are implicated in the Shaki District case and accused of seizing residents’ lands, to the provincial center for investigation.
It had previously been claimed that the recent tensions over gold mines were coordinated between Juma Fateh and Fasihuddin, as gold extraction is considered an important source of income for those close to them.
This comes as, since the Taliban’s return to power, non-standard extraction of mines has increased significantly, and clashes over gold mines have occurred on multiple occasions among Taliban fighters, and in some cases between Taliban and residents.
