Local sources in Herat province have reported that the Taliban assaulted guards at several restaurants in the region.
Sources informed Hasht-e Subh on Thursday, May 18, that nearly two weeks ago, the Taliban’s Department of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat announced that women could only enter restaurants in the province with a “legitimate companion.”
According to these sources, enforcers from the Department of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice attacked guards at several restaurants after some women entered without a “legitimate companion.”
It has been reported that the guards who were assaulted are elderly individuals.
One of the guards, who is around 55 years old, told Hasht-e Subh that the Taliban assaulted him because women entered without a “legitimate companion.”
He expressed his dissatisfaction with the Taliban’s actions.
This incident comes two months after the Taliban prohibited women from going to restaurants in Herat.
It should be noted that following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, this group has imposed numerous restrictions on the social lives of the country’s citizens, particularly women.
