Following the Taliban’s continued blocking of citizens’ access to fiber optic internet, residents of Herat have also been deprived of these services.
Several internet service companies in Herat announced on Thursday, September 18, 2025, that they have suspended their operations in this province.
These companies stated that they have cut off fiber optic internet services until further notice, following orders from Taliban authorities in Herat.
Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban Supreme Leader, has issued the order to cut fiber optic internet to prevent “vices.”
So far, internet services have been cut off in the provinces of Kandahar, Balkh, Helmand, Takhar, Badakhshan, Herat, and several other provinces.
Citizens are deeply concerned about this decision by the Taliban Supreme Leader and say that this action endangers the livelihoods of thousands of people and may deprive millions of access to distance learning.
