Local sources in Jaghori District of Ghazni say that people’s lands have been forcibly taken by the Taliban’s “Commission to Prevent Land Usurpation and Restore Usurped Lands” in the district.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, December 7, that under the guise of land restoration, the Taliban are registering the majority of people’s private properties in their favor.

A copy of a Taliban letter in Jaghori, obtained by Hasht-e Subh, shows that several areas previously under the control of residents have been seized by the Taliban.

In this letter, the Taliban have warned that no one has the right to construct buildings or be present in the properties mentioned.

According to the letter, the Taliban have registered the following areas as “restored” properties in their favor: “Dasht-e Sar Louman, Imam Ali ibn Talib Company area, Tabassum neighborhood area, Moradi neighborhood area and Technical High School, Dasht-e Ashtar Qorbalah area, airfield and Ghajoor market area, Ghajoor market municipality shops, New City Kariz area, Seidan and Anguri village area, Anguri market shops area, Khoshanachub, Maska and Sartela villages area, Dalkaichi Dawood, Habibullah land area, Safid area near the district office and behind the district office, and several other areas.”

Sources say that the areas listed in this letter have been used for years as agricultural lands, residential areas, or sections of public markets by residents.

According to them, there are concerns that by vacating these areas and displacing other people, primarily non-local individuals, the Taliban are attempting to alter the demographic and ethnic composition of Jaghori, one of the largest and most populous districts in Afghanistan.

The Taliban have previously registered large areas in different parts of the country in favor of their regime.

Many citizens of the country have expressed concern about this Taliban action and described the work of this commission as “usurpation.”
