Following the ban on education and employment for women, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has issued a written statement announcing the closure of women’s hair salons across the country as of July 23rd this year.
The statement, released by the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice on Monday, June 25th, and circulating on social networks, indicates that this decision is based on the oral guidance of Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader.
According to the written statement, the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue states: “From June 23rd to July 23rd, a grace period will be granted for women’s hair salons in Kabul city and the provinces. After this specified time, their operations will be strictly prohibited, rendering any licenses and contracts obtained after July 23rd invalid.”
The ministry has urged local authorities under its command to take decisive action in implementing these measures.
As of now, the Taliban have not provided an official comment on this matter.
Meanwhile, local sources in Zabul province have informed Hasht-e Subh that the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue has already closed down several hair salons in the province.
According to these sources, the Taliban have ordered these hairdressers to cease their operations immediately. Failure to comply will result in legal consequences.
It is important to note that the Taliban had previously imposed certain restrictions on women’s hair salons.
It is worth mentioning that with the Taliban’s control over Afghanistan, this group has imposed numerous limitations on the social lives of women.
