The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) extended its congratulations to the people of Afghanistan and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of Ramadan, emphasizing that it will continue to support Afghans throughout the holy month and throughout the year.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also expressed hope on Tuesday, February 17, that Ramadan would bring peace, blessings, and renewed hope to the people of Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the European Union likewise conveyed its Ramadan greetings to the Afghan people and called for sustained assistance to vulnerable families.
In a post on X, the EU described Ramadan as a time of charity and solidarity, urging people to extend a helping hand to those in need to support the most vulnerable members of society.
The statements come as, according to United Nations reports, Afghanistan is grappling with one of the most severe economic and hunger crises in the world. During Ramadan, economically disadvantaged families face even greater hardship due to financial constraints and rising prices of basic commodities.
