The Deputy Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reports that Afghanistan has witnessed an increase in violence against Shia Muslims in the past month.
On Monday, December 4, UNAMA conveyed in a Facebook post that these acts of violence occurred in the provinces of Kabul, Baghlan, and recently in Herat.
The message states: “In the past month, Afghanistan has witnessed an increase in violence against the Hazara Shia community in Kabul, Baghlan, and recently in Herat.”
The organization adds that it expresses solidarity with the victims and calls for investigations, accountability for the perpetrators, and increased support for individuals at risk.
It is noteworthy that unidentified gunmen, around 3:00 PM last Friday, targeted occupants of a “rickshaw” in the “Korra-e Milli” square of Jabraiel City, located in the 13th district of Herat city.
As a result of this attack, two Shia clerics and four women were killed, and three others were injured.
No group has claimed responsibility for this incident.
The Taliban have also condemned this attack.
