Kabul – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has expressed concern over the crisis in Afghanistan, saying that girls and boys should have access to health care and education.
On Saturday, October 9, Omar Abdi, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan in a statement has emphasized the vital importance of allowing all girls and boys to continue their education at all levels and meaningful partnership in political processes.
Omar Abdi has stated the declarations after a four-day trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan for checking the children’s needs in these two countries.
Abdi had come in health crisis and children nutrition in Afghanistan, and he besides George Laryea-Adjei, the UNICEF regional director, and Hervé Ludovic De Lys, the UNICEF representative in Afghanistan, have visited the country.
The UNICEF has warned that one million children in Afghanistan would die due to malnutrition if immediate measures are not taken.
Due to the escalation of measles, diarrhea, and other diseases in the country, UNICEF called for an immediate resumption of polio, measles, and Corona vaccination campaigns.
“Our goal is to see every girl and boy at school in Afghanistan, and to have them have access to safety and health care,” Abdi said.
The UNICEF has called on members of the UN, donors, and humanitarian foundations to act urgently so as to avoid human crisis and to protect children in Afghanistan.
