Taliban members publicly flogged a woman and three men in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province.
The primary court of Goshta district has flogged a woman and two men on the suspicion of having premarital relationships, sources confirmed to Hasht-e Subh on Tuesday (December 6th).
Taliban fighters carried out the lashings in front of hundreds of onlookers.
Flogging is considered a cruel and unusual punishment method, which is prohibited by various international conventions on human rights.
Hundreds of people were punished in the past few weeks in a similar way on the ‘alleged’ accusations of having premarital affairs and committing robbery. The move signals a return to the hard-line practices witnessed in the previous Taliban rule in the 1990s.
