Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the ties between Iran and Iraq go beyond geographical borders and neighbourly relations and are rooted in the shared history of the two countries.
Araghchi wrote on his X account on Thursday, July 9, thanking the Iraqi government and people for hosting and holding the funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former leader.
The Iranian foreign minister described relations between Tehran and Baghdad as deep-rooted and longstanding, emphasising the historical and cultural bonds between the two countries.
He also referred to Iraq as a country with “generosity and authenticity,” saying that these qualities represent loyalty and close relations between the two nations.
Earlier, a funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei had also been held in Iran, and Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had said that guests from around 100 countries would attend the funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former leader.
