Local sources in Kunar have reported the distressing demise of a former translator for the American forces in Afghanistan, who succumbed to brutal torture inflicted by the Taliban in the province.
Sources, as confirmed by the Hasht-e Subh Daily, reveal that the Taliban’s intelligence forces apprehended the American translator on Sunday, January 21, from Asad-Abad city, the central hub of Konar province.
The lifeless body of the former translator was discovered one day after his detention in the Sarkan district, displaying evident signs of torture, according to the sources.
However, specifics about the identity of the deceased and the duration of his service alongside American forces in Afghanistan remain elusive, as per the sources.
As of now, the Taliban have not issued any statements concerning this incident.
This tragic event unfolds against the backdrop of the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan and the resurgence of Taliban control. In the aftermath, hundreds of Afghan translators for foreign forces have sought immigration visas from the United States due to heightened fear of the Taliban.
Over the past two years, there has been an evacuation of some local employees and translators of foreign forces from Afghanistan. However, due to the sluggish evacuation process, a significant number of them find themselves stranded, either within the country or in neighboring nations.
