Local Taliban authorities in Helmand Province have reported that recent heavy rainfall has tragically resulted in the loss of eight lives and injuries to others.
Rashid Helmandi, head of the Taliban’s information and culture department in the region, disclosed on Tuesday, March 5th, that the downpours have destroyed at least 212 houses. Furthermore, he lamented the loss of 89 cattle over the past week in Helmand.
Helmandi detailed that the devastation isn’t limited to central districts but has also affected areas including Baghran, Sangin, Marja, Babaji, Nawa, Kajaki, Musa Qala, and Washir.
This unfortunate incident follows the deaths of five individuals in Sar-e Pul Province due to cold weather and the collapse of a house roof.
Previously, a spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Authority of the Taliban reported that heavy snowfall and severe cold have claimed the lives of at least 20 individuals in the country over the past two weeks, with 14 others sustaining injuries.
