The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that recent attacks near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have caused serious damage to the organization’s transit center in Torkham.
The organization reported on Thursday, March 12, 2026, that the IOM service center in Torkham, which plays an important role in providing assistance and protection to vulnerable returnees, has been destroyed due to ongoing attacks.
IOM emphasized that humanitarian workers and facilities must be protected at all times and under all circumstances, and that these destructions pose a serious threat to the delivery of services to returnees.
The organization also stated that it has assessed the damage caused and will resume its services for Afghan returnees as soon as conditions allow.
This comes as military attacks between the Taliban and Pakistan in recent days have resulted in the deaths of a large number of civilians in several provinces, including Nangarhar and Paktia.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) had also announced that, as a result of airstrikes and border clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan, 16,370 families have been displaced.
