Media outlets have reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized a cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz. According to a “Middle Eastern defense official” cited by the Associated Press, Iran attacked a ship near the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, April 13. Iranian domestic news agencies also announced that the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out this action.
A spokesperson for the MSC company, which manages the ship, stated that the vessel has a crew of 25, and efforts are underway to secure their return along with the ship. This incident occurs amid concerns over escalating tensions in the region and potential retaliatory attacks by Iran against Israel.
Since 2019, coinciding with increased tensions with Western countries over its nuclear program, Iran has repeatedly seized and attacked ships affiliated with them.
