Ehsan Heydari, Tehran’s Bureau for Aliens & Foreign Immigrants’ Affairs (BAFIA) acting director, has revealed that the expulsion of Afghan migrants from the city has tripled during the New Year of 1403 (Solar Calendar).
As reported by the Young Journalists Club (YJC) news agency, Heydari disclosed on Tuesday, April 16, that the enforcement of the plan to gather illegal foreigners from Tehran’s parks during the New Year of 1403 (Solar Calendar) resulted in the collection of over eight thousand Afghan nationals from the city’s parks and entertainment centers, who were then handed over to the detention camp for repatriation to Afghanistan.
He further highlighted that in 1402 (Solar Calendar) or 2023, more than 70,000 illegal nationals were gathered and handed over to the detention camp in Tehran for the repatriation process.
Heydari emphasized that the execution of the plan to gather illegal foreigners in Tehran would persist until the final moment.
It’s worth noting that Iran accommodates millions of Afghan refugees who left Afghanistan due to security concerns and economic hardships. A significant portion of these Afghan migrants sought asylum in Iran following the Taliban’s resurgence and the surge in poverty and unemployment.
