Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claims that the perpetrator of the attack on Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul has been arrested.
Central Taliban spokesman reported on Twitter on Monday (December 5th) the detention of the person responsible for the attack on Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul. A Taliban spokesperson for Kabul police had earlier confirmed that Taliban forces had arrested one suspect and recovered two firearms immediately after Pakistan’s embassy compound was targeted by gunfire from a nearby building.
Based on primary investigations, Mujahid claimed that the attack was a “joint operation” launched by ISKP and insurgents – a term the Taliban use to address their opponents.
Taliban spokesman, without elaborating on the identity of the suspect, said that the perpetrator of the attack is a foreign national.
Mujahid did not name the country of which this attacker is a citizen, but added that the investigation is still ongoing. Foreign hands are behind the attack on Pakistan’s embassy, according to him.
Pakistan’s head of mission in Kabul, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, was targeted by unidentified gunmen while taking a walk in the embassy compound. Though he was unhurt, one of his bodyguards was critically injured.
The Islamic State in Khurasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for this attack.
