The Sindh High Court in Pakistan has suspended an order by the country’s Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) requiring Afghan students to return to their country before completing their studies.
The Pakistani media outlet Arab News reported on Monday, September 14, that the court granted temporary relief to 34 students studying at various universities in Karachi.
According to the report, two separate petitions have been filed with the court concerning directives issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
One petition was filed by three final-year medical students studying at Dow Medical College.
Meanwhile, another petition was filed on behalf of 31 Afghan medical students studying at Dow University, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and other institutions in Karachi.
In its ruling, the Sindh High Court barred Pakistani authorities from taking action against the Afghan students until September 29. The court stated that the challenged notices would remain suspended and that no coercive action would be taken against the petitioners until then.
