Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, has responded to recent remarks by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by urging Pakistani officials to work to address their “failed policies” instead of making accusations against the Taliban.

On Monday, October 12, Mujahid described Pakistani officials’ accusations against the Taliban as baseless, saying that this approach would not help resolve problems.

Mujahid said senior Pakistani officials should focus on addressing their “failed policies” rather than conducting propaganda campaigns against the Taliban.

He added that Pakistan’s political, security, social and economic problems were concerning and had a negative impact across the region.

The Taliban spokesperson stressed that accusations by Pakistani officials against the Taliban were damaging the negotiation process.

His remarks came after Sharif again called on the Taliban on Sunday, October 11, to prevent “terrorist elements” from operating in Afghanistan. He made the remarks during a meeting of Pakistan’s cabinet.

The Pakistani prime minister said Islamabad had repeatedly made this request to the Taliban, but, according to him, the Taliban had yet to understand the issue.

Sharif also expressed concern over the deaths of civilians, children, mothers and security personnel in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
