Family members of several women’s beauty salon owners in Ghazni have reported that the Taliban’s Directorate for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has summoned them.
According to the family members of some salon owners in the province, they were summoned by the Taliban’s Directorate for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice on Thursday morning, July 6th. They were warned to halt their activities within the next two weeks.
These individuals stated that the authorities of this department warned them that if they violated the order, the husbands of salon owners or other family members would be pursued and punished.
It is worth noting that according to a written statement issued by the Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, women’s beauty salons in Afghanistan will no longer be allowed to operate after July 23, 2023.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice justified the closure of women’s beauty salons today, stating that the cost of styling is extravagant and eyebrow shaping for adornment is “in contradiction with Sharia law.”
This action by the Taliban has sparked strong reactions from the country’s citizens and human rights organizations.
