The BBC World Service has announced that the Taliban have suspended the broadcaster’s radio programs in Afghanistan.
The BBC wrote on its Facebook page on Tuesday, October 13, that the Taliban had suspended its radio broadcasts on FM frequencies in the country.
The broadcaster said it was in talks with the Taliban to continue its operations in Afghanistan.
The BBC previously broadcast in Dari, Pashto, and English on FM radio in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, sources say the Taliban accused the BBC of violating the group’s media policy.
According to the sources, the Taliban ordered the BBC to end its broadcasts in Afghanistan four days ago.
This comes as media outlets have faced increasingly tight restrictions since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
