The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has announced that, based on a decree by Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader, a “Prophetic Traditional Medicine” faculty will be established for the first time within the framework of Kabul’s Abu Ali Ibn Sina Medical Sciences University.
On Monday, February 2, 2026, the ministry stated in a press release published on its X page that the purpose of establishing this faculty is to “strengthen scientific, educational, and research activities in the field of prophetic traditional medicine.”
According to the press release, the establishment of this faculty will play an important role in “the development of health sciences and the training of professional personnel.”
This comes as Afghanistan’s education system has undergone significant changes since the Taliban’s return to power.
The Taliban have removed certain subjects and textbooks while increasing religious education.
Alongside these changes, strict restrictions have been imposed on students’ dress code, restrictions that have seriously targeted the type of clothing and its presence.
On the other hand, the Taliban have completely banned girls from attending university, a decision that has raised widespread concerns about their educational and professional future.
