US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned Iran that it will face “destruction” if it does not abandon its “nuclear ambitions.”

Al Jazeera reported early Sunday, October 18, that Hegseth made the remarks at a forum at the University of Tennessee.

According to the report, the US defense secretary said Iran must choose between abandoning its nuclear ambitions and facing “destruction.”

“Iran must make a decision very quickly: Does it want to abandon these goals at the negotiating table or face the destruction that the United States is capable of bringing upon it?” he said.

Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in recent months over control of the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear program have yet to produce tangible results.
