Kabul – The US officials have stated that a board from the State Department and the US Agency for Development is scheduled to visit with the Taliban officials in Doha.
On Saturday, October 9, the high-ranking US officials negotiate for 2 days regarding major issues, including ensuring commuting US citizens and the other citizens to foreign countries from Afghanistan, Reuters narrated from the US officials.
Meanwhile, it will be demanded from the Taliban in this meeting to release the abducted US citizen, Mark Ferrish.
According to Reuters, the two-day meeting of US and Taliban delegations in Doha, the capital of Qatar will emphasize that the Taliban must stand to their commitments and not allow Afghanistan to become a safe haven for Al-Qaida and other terrorist groups.
Tom West, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and Sarah Charles, USAID Senior Humanitarian Officer, participate on behalf of the United States.
The US special envoy, Zalmay Khalilzad, who led the US delegation to the Doha negotiations, is not in the board composition.
The US authorities have indicated that the Taliban ought to facilitate the access of humanitarian assistance because Afghanistan is facing a ‘really intense’ landscape.
The US officials with a great deal of concern have said that it’s likely to prevent “economic contraction” from Afghanistan.
“The meeting is in continuation of realistic engagements with the Taliban that we have emphasized on issues of vital the US national interest,” a senior US official told Reuters.
The meeting is not for recognizing or legitimating the Taliban; every legitimacy must be achieved through their measures, as added by a US official.
This is the first meeting between the US and Taliban delegations after the withdrawal of the US troops and its allies from Afghanistan.
On Friday, October 8, a delegation of Taliban led by Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the caretaker of foreign ministry participated in the meeting.
