The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that across Afghanistan, 3.7 million children and 1.2 million women are suffering from acute malnutrition.
In a post on X on Tuesday, February 10, the organization said a sharp rise in malnutrition has led to an increasing number of children visiting WFP-supported clinics in Kabul every day.
The United Nations added that in response to growing needs, the WFP continues to provide life-saving nutritional assistance and is working to ensure that mothers and children gain access to the urgent treatment they require.
Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that without immediate support and intervention, the nutritional situation of children and women in Afghanistan could worsen, leading to long-term consequences for their health and development.
UNICEF has also reported that 942,000 children in Afghanistan are suffering from severe malnutrition, while around 700,000 more are at risk of moderate malnutrition.
