On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Amnesty International says that many women in Afghanistan have had to set aside their identities and become invisible.
The organization said in a statement on Sunday, 8 March, that it is calling for an end to human rights violations in Afghanistan.
The organization says that the Taliban continue these practices of torture, sexual harassment, arbitrary detentions, and censorship without any accountability.
The message states: ‘Women have been deprived of almost all areas of life, and practices such as torture and ill-treatment, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and censorship continue with complete impunity”.
The organization emphasized that severe restrictions on women’s freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and political participation have continued without any oversight.
Moreover, the reinstatement of corporal punishments and the lack of an independent judiciary have worsened these issues; there is no way for victims to seek justice.
Amnesty International emphasized that the world’s response to the Taliban’s actions has been limited.
