The co-pilot of a Flydubai aircraft who attacked the flight’s pilot and attempted to crash the plane en route to Israel is an Omani citizen.
ABC News reported on Saturday, November 3, that the man, identified as “Humam Al-Hamami,” is 29 years old.
According to the report, Al-Hamami was identified in 2024 while working for Oman Air for possessing “extremist materials” and was suspended from flying.
He was subsequently transferred to an administrative position at Oman Air, but later began working as a Flydubai co-pilot.
The United Arab Emirates’ Attorney General said Al-Hamami attacked the pilot with an “axe” during the flight and attempted to take control of the aircraft.
The incident has been described as a “security incident,” and investigations are continuing to determine whether it was linked to “terrorist activity” or involved prior planning.
