Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, and Zhao Xing, China’s ambassador to Kabul, discussed bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation during a farewell meeting.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s Deputy Spokesperson, said in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, that the Chinese ambassador expressed appreciation for the Taliban’s cooperation and support during his three-year mission in Afghanistan and described relations between the two sides as longstanding and historical.
Zhao Xing also said that China supports the Taliban at the United Nations and other international institutions, adding that economic relations and travel between the two sides have expanded over the past three years.
In response, Abdul Salam Hanafi expressed appreciation for the Chinese ambassador’s mission in Afghanistan and stressed the continuation and expansion of relations between the Taliban and Beijing.
Hanafi also described China as an important economic neighbor of Afghanistan and called on the country to support the Taliban at the United Nations Security Council and in international meetings.
