The World Justice Project (WJP) has announced in its 2026 report that Afghanistan ranks 142nd out of 143 countries on the Rule of Law Index.
In its annual report, the organization examined the state of the rule of law in countries around the world.
According to the rankings, Denmark, Norway and Finland occupy the first, second and third positions, respectively.
At the bottom of the list, Haiti ranks 141st, Afghanistan 142nd and Venezuela 143rd.
As a result, Afghanistan ranks second from the bottom on this index.
The index assesses the state of the rule of law across eight areas, including constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, and civil and criminal justice.
