A small number of Sikhs who remained in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s return to power have sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the deadly earthquake in Kunar.
This aid was collected on Tuesday, September 2, by the Gurdwara Committee “Guru Nanak Darbar” in Jalalabad city and sent to Kunar province, a severely affected province.
Manjit Singh Lamba, head of the Afghan Hindu and Sikh Minorities Council, said that the aid includes wheat, cooking oil, and clothing.
He added that around 50 to 55 members of the Sikh community still live in Afghanistan and are responsible for maintaining the gurdwaras.
The majority of Afghanistan’s Sikhs and Hindus migrated to India and other countries after the fall of the previous government in 2021.
However, Lamba said that a small number of this community remain in the country and are present alongside the people during times of crisis.
