Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during his visit to Iraq that, according to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran’s management and will return to its pre-war capacity after Tehran removes existing obstacles.
The IRNA news agency reported on Sunday, June 28, that Araghchi made these remarks during a joint press conference with Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.
According to the report, Araghchi said that no other institution or country has any responsibility for reopening the Strait of Hormuz under the memorandum.
He added that any attempt to introduce new or separate arrangements would only complicate the situation, delay the reopening of the strait, and increase tensions.
This comes as Oman recently announced the creation of a new corridor for the passage of ships and oil tankers alongside its coastal waters.
