At least 50 people were killed and several women and children abducted after armed men attacked a village in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara state.
Reuters reported on Friday evening, February 20, that the attack occurred from around 5 p.m. on Thursday until about 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
The attackers were burning down buildings and shooting residents who tried to flee, causing heavy casualties.
Hamisu A. Faru, lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South, said that the attackers moved from village to village, and the deaths of at least 50 people have been confirmed so far.
In recent months, insecurity in northern Nigeria has increased, with groups known as “Bandits” carrying out deadly attacks and abductions for ransom and displacing communities across northern Nigeria.
