Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan, expressed concern over the human rights situation in the country at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.
On September 7, he said that the Taliban have intensified restrictions and repression against women, minorities, journalists and human rights defenders by imposing new laws and regulations.
According to Bennett, the scope of restrictions in Afghanistan continues to expand, while citizens’ fundamental rights face serious threats.
The UN Special Rapporteur called for serious attention and action by the international community to address human rights violations and support the people of Afghanistan.
It is worth noting that the human rights situation in Afghanistan continues to face serious concerns.
