Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, expressed concern in a New Year (Nowruz) message, saying that in the new year, girls above grade six in Afghanistan are still being deprived of education.

On Sunday, March 22, Bennett wrote on X, calling for the removal of restrictions on girls’ education, and said that, in addition to schoolgirls, female university students are also unable to attend university.

He said: “I note that only afghanistan this mark the beginning of another school year in which girls beyond 6th grade will not be allowed to continue education at school and women will not be able to attend university.”

Bennett said these restrictions are unacceptable and must be lifted as soon as possible.

International organizations have repeatedly emphasized that depriving girls of education not only affects their future but also has broader social and economic consequences for Afghan society as a whole.

Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan, they have imposed extensive restrictions on women and girls, preventing them from attending schools and universities.
