Thomas Dehermann-Roy, the new head of the European Union’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) in Afghanistan, has met with Kwabena Asante-Ntiamoah, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in the country.
UNFPA said on Tuesday, October 20, that its longstanding cooperation with the European Union’s humanitarian aid department is important for responding promptly to the critical needs of women and girls in Afghanistan.
The organisation emphasised the importance of continuing cooperation to address the humanitarian needs of women and girls in Afghanistan.
This comes as women and girls in Afghanistan continue to face widespread restrictions on education, employment and access to essential services following the Taliban’s return to power.
These restrictions, combined with economic difficulties and growing humanitarian needs, have further worsened living conditions for many of them.
