Nasir Ahmad Faiq, acting head of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has said that counterterrorism cannot be used to justify unlawful attacks on civilians or violations of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity.
Faiq said on Wednesday, October 7, in a post on X that Afghanistan strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and that no distinction should be made between “good” and “bad” terrorists.
He made the remarks at a meeting of the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.
Faiq emphasized that any party, including the Taliban, that provides shelter, funding or support to terrorist groups must be held accountable.
He also strongly condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes in Kunar and Helmand, saying reports indicate that at least 10 civilians, mostly children, were killed in the attacks.
Faiq added that security concerns should not be used as a pretext for violating Afghanistan’s territorial integrity or putting civilians’ lives at risk.
The acting head of Afghanistan’s UN mission said achieving lasting security in Afghanistan requires legitimate, inclusive and accountable governance.
According to Faiq, respect for the rights of women and girls, along with coordinated international support for an Afghan-led political process, is also essential for achieving lasting security.
