Sources in Kandahar say that a young father and his five children drowned in the waters of Dahla Dam in the province, resulting in the deaths of the father and four of his children, while another child was rescued.
The sources told The Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, August 27, that the young father had gone with his family from Kandahar city to Dahla Dam in Shah Wali Kot district for recreation.
According to the information, the man, identified as Noor Ahmad, drowned along with his children after a recreational boat they were riding in overturned.
Sources said that Noor Ahmad lived and ran a shop in Kandahar city.
They added that the bodies of two of his daughters have so far been recovered, while efforts to find the remaining bodies are ongoing.
This comes as, due to the lack of adequate recreational facilities during the hot season, people across Afghanistan often visit dams, rivers, and streams for recreation, with many losing their lives in drowning incidents.
