In Faryab province, local sources have reported the tragic suicide of a 21-year-old woman named “Het Gul.” According to reliable information obtained by Hasht-e Subh, Het Gul hanged herself in her village of “Arzaliq,” situated in the Qaysar district, on Monday, October 16, putting an end to her life.
Her suicide is believed to have been driven by family violence. Just two days before her untimely death, she had bravely filed a complaint against her husband, accusing him of abuse, to the Taliban security commander in Qaysar.
Following her complaint, her husband was briefly detained by the Taliban but was released shortly after. However, after Het Gul’s tragic suicide, the Taliban re-arrested him. As of now, Taliban officials have not issued any statement regarding this deeply concerning incident.
It is essential to note that since the resurgence of the Taliban in the region, cases of family violence and suicides among women have significantly increased in the country. Experts attribute this alarming rise to widespread poverty and the absence of established support systems to address violence against women. The lack of adequate resources and assistance exacerbates the plight of vulnerable individuals like Het Gul, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive interventions to protect women from domestic violence and provide them with the support they require.
