Kabul – Iranian media have reported, referring to sources at the Iranian Foreign Ministry that a Taliban diplomat has arrived in Tehran to oversee and run the affairs of the Afghanistan Embassy in Iran.
According to Iranian media, following the publication of reports about the acceptance of Taliban diplomats by Tehran, informed sources have reported that only one Taliban diplomat has entered Tehran.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry, however, has not confirmed the arrival of Taliban diplomats in Tehran.
Earlier, in an interview with the Iranian Foreign Minister, the Taliban’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi had announced the trip of a Taliban delegation to Iran.
However, nothing has been said about the identities of these diplomats, but reports vary as to what position they will take over the Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran.
According to a reliable source in Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran, only one Taliban diplomat has arrived in Tehran, who is at the level of the third secretary, and two other diplomats are scheduled to work in this embassy upon arrival in Iran.
After Pakistan, Qatar, Turkmenistan, and Russia, Iran is the fifth country to accept Taliban diplomats to work in Afghanistan Embassies and consulates.
