An explosion at the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Baghdad has killed at least one person and injured four others.
Reuters reported on Saturday night, October 17, citing Iraqi security and medical sources, who confirmed the incident.
According to the report, the group said the explosion involved a stockpile of old and deteriorating ammunition.
The Popular Mobilization Forces is a coalition of paramilitary groups that has been formally integrated into Iraq’s state security forces. It includes several factions aligned with Iran.
The incident comes as the Iraqi government has made efforts in recent weeks to disarm paramilitary groups.
