Iraqi sources say Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has ordered the indefinite closure of the Shib border crossing with Iran.
Al Jazeera reported early Wednesday, October 21, citing an Iraqi official who confirmed the decision.
According to the report, the official said the prime minister had also ordered the gradual closure of several other border crossings over the coming days.
The Shib crossing will be closed to the movement of people and goods starting Wednesday until further notice, the official said.
However, Iraqi and Iranian officials have not yet publicly explained the reasons behind the decision to close the border crossings.
