Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special presidential representative for Afghanistan, says trade between Russia and Afghanistan doubled in the first six months of this year.
Kabulov made the remarks on Friday, October 16, at a meeting on security in Central Asia and Afghanistan attended by representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Acknowledging that the overall volume of trade between the two countries remains low, he said the increase was significant given Afghanistan’s circumstances following two decades of US and NATO military presence.
Kabulov stressed that trade growth should be gradual and sustainable, adding that Russia would work to maintain the trend.
The Russian president’s special representative also said that constructive cooperation based on mutual interests between Russia and Afghanistan was taking shape.
