Local sources have reported a disturbing incident involving the Taliban, who stand accused of shooting at Shamsuddin Bikzad, a former government soldier and current director of criminal affairs for the group’s security command in Samangan. The alleged reason for the attack was his supposed involvement in “harassing and tormenting people and engaging in gambling.”
Confirmation of the incident on Thursday, December 21, came from sources close to Hasht-e Subh Daily, revealing that the attack occurred two nights ago in the village of “Khaja Ismaiel,” near the city of Ebak, the center of Samangan province.
Shamsuddin Bikzad sustained injuries in the assault, with two bullets hitting his “abdomen” and one striking his “hand,” resulting in severe harm. Initial reports suggest the Taliban intended to kill Baikzad, highlighting the severity of the attack.
The Taliban have put forward accusations against Bikzad, claiming he abused official powers, harassed people, and engaged in gambling. In contrast, Baikzad’s associates dismiss these allegations as a mere “pretext,” asserting that the Taliban targeted him due to his previous military role.
It is crucial to note that since the Taliban’s return to power, they have faced consistent allegations from human rights organizations, accusing them of detaining and killing former government soldiers. Despite these serious accusations, the Taliban maintain a stance of non-cooperation with human rights organizations, refusing to address inquiries regarding their actions.
