The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that, from January to July 2026, humanitarian partners provided at least one form of humanitarian assistance to 8.3 million people in Afghanistan.

OCHA said 47 percent of recipients were children, 33 percent were women, and 20 percent were men.

During the same period, 1.1 million people received at least three forms of humanitarian assistance.

OCHA said food assistance accounted for 59 percent of all aid recipients, or 4.9 million people, reflecting the widespread scale of acute food insecurity and the need for repeated, multi-sector support.

For Afghanistan’s 2026 humanitarian response, $1.71 billion is required. By July, only $448 million, or 26 percent of the total requirement, had been funded.

OCHA also called for adequate and flexible funding, the safety of humanitarian workers, and safe and meaningful participation of Afghan women humanitarian workers.
